Rashtriya Jal BiradariAs you are already aware of Rashtriya Jal Biradari and its concern for
water issues especially in case of the recently declared National Water
Policy for which we are fighting for last two years and have already organised
two national level Jal Sammelan first in Nimi, Jaipur in the month of
April 2001 and secondly at New Delhi on 5th &6th March 2002 .We also
prepared a alternate draft policy on this national water policy issue,
sended it to prime minister and other concerned ministries but nothing
much happened After the finalisation of National Water Policy on 1st of April 2002
a deep concern has been there Among Jal Biradari on various issue mentioned
in the policy and the general opinion in the country is that it does not
fulfil the Indian people's expectations especially the poorest of the
poor. This policy emphasises on private control by declaring water as
an asset questioning the fundamental rights of the people. The item no.13
in the policy, which illustrates on the private sector participation in
the planning, development As in the coming two years each state has to finalise its state water
policy and because of Jal Biradari's commitment to have a peoples oriented
water policy and considering the fact that different Agro Ecological climatic
zones have its own typical characteristic, stress should be given to different
geographical conditions existing in various states and also within the
state (At Regional level). |
