Tarun Jal VidyaPeeth
Join Tarun Jal Vidyapeeth and devote your energy to fruitful community work, under the guidance of senior practicing professionals who care for their pupils like Gurus for their Disciples. The labour given during your studies for the conservation of rural Common Pool Resources is compensated.
Learn and study through lectures and exercises imparted by senior scientists, academicians and professionals. We never leave you without help in front of a text-book! Instead, we guide you in writing your own notebooks and manuals, from the material imparted in lectures, or that you collect from fieldwork or from the library.
In the course of this comprehensive journey combining work sessions with study, you improve your skill in various technologies and management, you strengthen your scientific and rational thinking, you deepen your knowledge of Nature, and you develop your artistic and communication skills, as well as your awareness of the social institutions.
The curriculum is designed for helping you to develop a large range of competences. Thus every part of it: lectures, exercises, exposure trainings and practical work sessions are compulsory and assessed separately. Your work is assessed on the results and you have to succeed in every subject and part of the programme.
Tarun Jal Vidyapeeth is located in Rajasthan, a State with a rich water tradition. However, the programme of study is nation-wide and comprises exposure trainings and assignments in different parts of the country.
All languages are respected in the Vidyapeeth, but Hindi is compulsory. You will improve your language skills in evening language classes, in Hindi or in English or both, as necessary.
The course is residential for two years, with 6 weeks of holidays per year. The first year is entirely in Rajasthan, at Tarun Ashram and around. During the second year you work for three months in an other organisation in India , and in the last 6 months you prepare a 'Masterwork' as the final conclusion of your studies.
The Masterwork is a useful personal work that demonstrates your competence. You are guided in this work by a teacher of the Vidyapeeth and if necessary by an expert from outside. The project can be based either in an organisation, at the Vidyapeeth or on your own (in your village). A jury including recognised experts from outside the Vidyapeeth assesses your Masterwork and awards the Diploma in Common Resources Management.
