Dear Friends, ....Yamuna Satyagraha 2007.... The team of Jal Biradari organized a Yamuna Satyagraha Yatra from Delhi to Kosi-Mathura, Agra up to Uttrakashi on 26 to 1 July 2007. The message of this Yatra is requested society and Government to clean and restore Yamuna. The following satyagrahis participated in Yamuna Satyagraha: Rajendra Singh-Jal Biradari President, Ramesh Sharma & Dewan Singh from Delhi, Lalit sharma & Vinod Kumar from Uttar Pradesh, Prabhu Lal Salvi & Saleem Khan from Rajasthan. The Satyagrahis made the following requests to the Government: As per the five States Memorandum agreed in 12 May 1994, the minimum flow must be ensured. We must reforest the Yamuna’s banks. We are proposing to plant five types of trees “Peepal, Bargad, Goolar, Amla & Kadamb” on the Yamuna’s banks which will revive the life of the river. The catchment treatment is necessary for the health of the Yamuna, it will rejuvenate all its streams. We must also revive the traditional water harvesting structures as well as the Yamuna culture and tradition. Decentralized water treatment plants will be better than the huge centralized structures. The flow of Yamuna River is a Gift of Nature. No individual or business house should claim exclusive rights over water, as it is the source of life. Handing over ‘water rights’ is not in the larger interest of the country and its people. We, the members of Jal Biradari, have a very clear message "conservation and protection". We strongly believe that through water conservation and protection of river we can help make the river pollution-free and we hope all the states of India and the government will understand our message.
